On A Clear Day You can See Forever… the words of the song by legendary Barbara Streisand are so well suited to describe the views from La Mairena. This magnificent area is often overlooked when on a property search of Elviria and Marbella, and in fact the country region of Coin.

This is an exclusive mountain area with cork, oak and pine trees which are in this area, protected. There is also a limit of 5% building allowed on this mountain which further protects the exclusivity of the region.

Whilst many buyers want only ‘walking distance to everything’ at the coast, there are less and less choices open to them today as many properties have been sold recently.

La Mairenas community boasts villas, apartments and townhouses, and many luxurious dream homes, which have often taken the proud owners almost a lifetime to achieve, whilst working in colder northern countries. La Mairena has a completely international community.

This is enhanced by the two schools sitting on the top of the mountain, namely the German International College Juan Hoffman, boasting 44 nationalities, and over 600 pupils being educated in this wonderful college with the best views in the world. Next door is the Ecos College which is a Spanish school with approx. another 600 pupils. These numbers ensure that there is a large permanent community in the region, which is important when choosing your new home.

Of course the most famous neighbour would be Julio Iglesias who has the prime position on the mountain and boasted, quite rightly, ‘that he has the best views on the Mediterranean from his home’.

It takes approx. 7 mins. to drive down to the Elviria coast and about the same to drive down on the other direction to La Cala de Mijas, with numerous golf courses in between, and breathtaking views all the way. In Elviria and La Cala de Mijas there are many banks, supermarkets, shops, amenities and great restaurants which are open all year round.

It is interesting to note that Coin, a country region, and Marbella and Elviria the coastal regions, have gone as far as having court cases to ‘dispute ownership of Julio Iglesias’, due to his large estate falling within two different regions. However La Mairena does indeed belong belong to the Ojen municipality although it is closer to Elviria, and is often seen as a part of Elviria.

The natural surroundings and the astonishing views are two of the main reasons why people choose to buy a property in La Mairena.

La Mairena is a place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the natural surroundings, it´s a world far away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. There are many wild animals here, and often wild boar are spotted at dawn ‘truffling’ round the gardens and drinking at the swimming pools, much to the aggravation of the gardeners!!

The area boasts breathtaking country views onto the mountains and valley´s of Coin, continuing around to the coastal towns of Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmadena and stretching as far as to Sierra Nevada with its snow capped mountains in the far distance.

Also, on your descent to Elviria you can see Gibraltar, Puerto Banus, Marbella coast and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

What more can you ask for?? Come and have a look, you won’t be disappointed.
