Calahonda

Calahonda is located on the western edge of the Mijas municipality, lying between La Cala de Mijas and the border with Marbella. A vast urban area, Calahonda is home to many expats and many holiday home properties. The area is a relaxing, chilled out destination with friendly bars, restaurants and shops.

Calahonda is well known as a family friendly area with many local amenities close by. There is a miniature train that acts as a local bus, travelling from Los Cipresses to Los Olivos commercial areas, stopping at The Strip, Los Jarales and El Zoco. The “bus” will stop anywhere if you ask the driver to let you off somewhere specific. It is very easy to find everything you need in Calahonda but the distances can sometimes require a long walk, depending on where you are staying and if you have rented a car during your visit.

The area can be divided into specific areas for shopping, dining and services. Each commercial area contains many businesses and can be divided into the following areas:

  • El Zoco
  • The Strip
  • Los Jarales
  • Los Cipreses
  • Doña Lola
  • Los Olivos
